KALAMAZOO, MI -- You might be tying up your shoelaces and preparing to run or you're putting the finishing touches on your sign before you spend the day cheering.

Either way, hopefully you're ready, because the Kalamazoo Marathon is today.

At 8 a.m., runners will head out from the start/finish line off of Gull Road to cover over 26.2 miles throughout the streets of Kalamazoo.

The half-marathon also starts at 8 a.m., followed by the 10K at 8:15 a.m., the 5K at 8:25 a.m. and the 5K walk at 8:30 a.m.

Spectators are encouraged to line the course and cheer, create excitement for the runners and even get creative with costumes and signs.

Don't forget your commute to church or the grocery store might be interrupted this morning because of road closures.

The entire Kalamazoo Mall will be closed from 8 a.m. to about 9:30 a.m. Parkview Avenue will be closed between Drake Road and the entrance to Parkview Hills for the duration of the race. Also, from about 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Nazareth Road, north of Gull Road, will be closed.

Motorists on Gull Road should expect delays from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m, and runners will head down Michigan Avenue from Riverview Drive, creating backups for people leaving downtown via Michigan Avenue.

While watching television several years ago, she spotted an infomercial promoting a program that would leave great results. That program was Insanity Beach Body.

"I'll start on Monday," Alcantara, sounding like many others who take a vow of fitness, only to procrastinate.

Three more Mondays followed before she finally awoke at 5am one morning to begin the program's diet and workout plan. In 60 days, she finished the program 40 pounds lighter, and forced her to take ownership over her health.

"I didn't know I had control," Alcantara said she learned from the program. "I didn't know I controlled what I put into my body."

In December 2015, she decided she wanted more than just being skinny. A month later, she began preparing for a body building competition, which meant controlling her food portions and lifting heavy weights.

"I became addicted to results," Alcantara told CNBC.
